Dear Fellow Traveler,
Welcome to Starborne: The Journal of Autocosmology. As the editorial team, we are excited to embark on this cosmic journey with you. Together, we’ll explore the personal and collective implications of the emerging revelation that “The human is that being in whom the universe activates, reflects upon, and celebrates itself in conscious self-awareness” (Thomas Berry, Evening Thoughts).
What does it mean for us to inhabit our role as an integral expression of the unfolding cosmic process? What changes when we remember that we exist on the crest of a 14-billion-year-old wave of cosmic creativity? And, how might this dawning awareness restructure both the theory and practice of art-making?
There are no absolute answers to these questions, rather we are each tasked with discovering and embodying an authentic response to this awe-inspiring revelation. Starborne offers itself as a conduit for that burgeoning creativity.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to the intricate dance between the grand story of cosmogenesis and its most intimate, personal dimension. This journal is a space where art, science, philosophy, cosmology, and lived experience converge to deepen our appreciation for the cosmos and our role within its ongoing evolution.
Starborne seeks to bridge diverse fields and perspectives, offering a platform for scholars, artists, and other practitioners to present work that pushes the boundaries of personal expression and conventional cosmological discourse. We seek contributions that illuminate the many facets of the universe's unfolding story. We especially welcome submissions from individuals from historically marginalized and under-recognized groups, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities, and those from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
We envision Starborne as a living, conversational space, where interdisciplinary approaches and diverse voices come together to enrich our collective understanding of what it means to be the universe reflecting on itself in self-awareness. Whether you are a researcher with new findings, a philosopher with profound insights, an artist with evocative visions, or a writer with a fresh narrative, your contributions are welcome. We are eager to receive work that not only expands our knowledge but also inspires and challenges our perspectives of the universe. As you prepare your submissions, please remember that this journal thrives on creativity and intellectual rigor alike.
You can submit your work or proposals here; please be sure to refer to our submission guidelines beforehand.
Thank you for joining us in this exciting endeavor. We look forward to exploring the cosmos together, one submission at a time.
Cosmically,
The Starborne Editorial Team
Love it! And love being on this cosmic journey together :)
